How to create a Twitter developer account

When you apply do not use a VPN, use a real phone number to verify the account and don't copy this guide word for word.

  • Sign in your Twitter account

  • Head over to

  • Press "Apply for a developer account".

  • Select "Exploring the API" under the “Hobbyist” tab.

  • Press "Next" in the bottom right corner.

  • On the next page, simply follow all the instructions and fill in the inputs correctly.

  • Once this is done, press the "Next" button again.

  • Now, simply fill in those fields. You may do this from scratch, use YouTube or use these templates. Be sure to edit them slightly before using them.

  • In English, please describe how you plan to use Twitter data and/or APIs. The more detailed the response, the easier it is to review and approve.

  • I am new to development and I would like to see how APIs work and maybe make my first ever Twitter bot that will post automatically on my Twitter account. I will not research any data or analyze it at all.

  • Are you planning to analyze Twitter data?

  • No

  • Please describe your planned use of these features.

  • I will try to create an app that tweets posts on my Twitter account. For example: "Weather today is nice".

  • Do you plan to display Tweets or aggregate data about Twitter content outside of Twitter?

  • No

  • Will your product, service or analysis make Twitter content or derived information available to a government entity?

  • No

  • Press "Next" in the bottom right corner, and then submit your application.

  • You will be directed to a confirmation page. Check your email and confirm the link as instructed (check "Spam" folder as well).

  • Once your application is accepted, you will be notified via email or on the site.
